Alberton is a city situated on the banks of Natalspruit river, in the southern part of the East Rand of Gauteng. It is known as a typical ‘bedroom’ community which means that it is primarily residential in nature. The only reason for Alberton’s location is due to its convenient proximity to the major population centre. In 2005 Alberton celebrated its centenary year. Suburbs in this area include amongst others - Alberante, Brackendowns, Brackenhurst, Meyersdal, New Redruth and South Crest. Meyersdal boasts two of the best nature estates in the country- The Meyersdal Eco estate and Meyersdal Nature estate, where wildlife moves around freely and in abundance. This scenic, spacious reserve is home to 170 species of birds, duiker, otters, springbok, wildebeest, zebra, porcupines and red hartebeest. Alberton City has just recently been renovated and offers shoppers a large variety of stores to browse. There are a number of schools in the area that cater for all scholars requirements. Healthcare facilities include numerous government clinics as well as the privately operated Union Hospital and Clinton Clinics. There are plenty of sports facilities for tennis, rugby, boxing, wrestling, cricket, jukskei, netball, hockey, soccer and much more. Restaurants are regularly frequented by residents and visitors, Fahrenheit, Piatto, Harvard Fish Market and Promise Grill are some of the options to choose from.
