Pretoria North lies north of the rolling, green foothills of the Magaliesberg range and alongside the banks of the Apies River. The area was first settled in 1878 by Afrikaner farmers who started farming close to the river. The precinct remains a primarily Afrikaans-speaking area. There are three train stations in Pretoria North that connect the top of the area to the bottom; Wolmerlon, Pretoria Noord and Wonderboom stations. There are four renowned schools in Pretoria North called Laerskool Rachel De Beer, Laerskool Voortrekker Eeufees, Hoerskool Gerrit Maritz and Hoerskool Pretoria Noord. Next door to this charming suburb is the Wonderboom Nature Reserve, home to the Wonderboom or ‘miracle tree’ that is over a thousand years old. Residents enjoy exploring the Magaliesberg and Hartebeespoort Dam which are easily accessible, and both of which provide a welcome respite on the weekend.
