Rooihuiskraal is an older suburb in Centurion West, with large stands and beautiful wooded gardens. The name Rooishuiskraal is an Afrikaans word for Red house Kraal which is an historical site famous for the battle known as the Anglo-Boer War, which was fought and won by the Boers near the historical site in 1881. The Old Stone Kraal Rooihuiskraal is a reminder of the victory and was declared a national monument. Rooihuiskraal is situated close to the N1 and R55 highways, allowing easy access to the business centres across the rest of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Sandton. Although the suburb was previously a solely residential area, today there are shopping centres including Reds Mall, Centurion Lifestyle Centre, Centurion Mall, Blue Valley Mall and the San Ridge Mall and new developments continue to be built. Rooihuiskraal has many parks and public or community areas, most of which follow the spruit that runs through the middle of Rooihuiskraal. The area is considered one of the most secure in Centurion. There are a variety of properties types in the suburb including houses, townhouses, duets, apartments, vacant land, clusters, guesthouses, security estates and new developments. Rooihuiskraal is central to a number of schools including Southdown’s College, Midstream College, Rooihuiskraal Primary, Uitsig High and Eldoraigne High. For great medical services the Unitas hospital, the Highveld Meical centre, and Southdown’s Medical Centre are all within six kilometres of Rooihuiskraal.
