Shaka’s Rock is a charming town in the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal. This small town got its name from the rich history of the area. The infamous King Shaka or Shaka Zulu, a renowned Zulu chief, resided in the region at the beginning of the 1800s. Shaka was known for having his enemies thrown from high rocks. Shaka’s Rock stretches along the Dolphin Coast and is nestled between Salt Rock and Ballito, about 40 kilometres north of the main central business district of Durban. The town is a much loved tourist destination and the area has some of the most exclusive properties on the Dolphin Coast, offering breath-taking sea views, including Thompson’s bay with its stunning tidal pool. Catfish Beach is the main beach in the Shaka’s Rock and is frequently used to launch boats for deep sea fishing trips and ski-boats. Shaka’s Rock Beach is close by and is a popular choice for sunbathers, snorkelers and swimmers.
