The Johannesburg South area is a picture of leisurely, scenic, natural beauty with boundless hills or ‘koppies’ and peppered with lush, exclusive nature estates. The so-called ‘South’ is divided into two separate areas, namely the ‘Old South’ and the ‘New South.’ The Old South runs north of the N12 highway and includes well-known suburbs such as Glenvista, Mulbarton, Winchester Hills and Mondeor, and the New South is located below the N12 and includes suburbs like Oakdene, Linmeyer, La Rochelle, Rosettenville and Turfontein. Although the residential areas are separated by convenient highways, the old and new south residents and visitors share the wonderful amenities and recreational activities available in Johannesburg South. This friendly, family orientated community are outdoorsy and health conscious, which has prompted development of many facilities like gyms, mountain bike trails, jogging tracks, cycling clubs, pilates and yoga studios. If they aren’t keeping fit, families and friends may meet to enjoy a picnic or spend an afternoon visiting the animals at the Rietvlei Zoo. To the delight of the animals, a park run is held there every Saturday morning. Golf is another popular activity in the South, the Glenvista Country Club and the Eye of Africa Golf course both have excellent greens and driving ranges for players wanting to hone their form and swing. Gold Reef City Amusement Park and Casino is just around the corner, where you can ride roller coasters, watch movies or play ten pin bowling. Two main shopping malls are located in the South: the Glen Shopping Centre, situated close to the N12 highway and the new Mall of the South, situated in the new South close to an stunning nature estate known as Aspen Hills.
