The constitutional club was once a gentlemen’s club
Benoni’s Constitutional Club (Connie Club) opened in 1906 at 5 Ampthill Avenue and started off as a gentlemen’s club, founded mainly by English-speaking miners from the surrounding gold mines. It became a place where members would go to create friendships, play games and spend time getting to know their fellow community members.
So, in January 1912 the Constitutional Club opened its new premises on the corner of Swan Street and Lake Avenue, which was asingle-story building consisting of a barroom, a lounge, and a billiards room.
Where through the years South African Snooker Championships have been played. There are still 5 Snooker Tables. (Price to be Neg.)
The existing premises consists of a double stand, adding up to 1,190sqm.
Previous entrepreneurs tried to renovate the property and ran out of money. It is Zoned for “Infrastructure”. Being an NPO Property.
Therefore, the price being so low is because they want to cover their debt. No profit.
These premises are looking for a new owner to take it to new heights.
