Water rich farm near Sutherland

Well planned out 5468-hectare farm in the panoramic Central Karoo, located halfway between Sutherland and Merweville 

Fully operational farm split by the border of the Northern and Western Cape registered with 2 title deeds:

* one in the Northern Cape (3125.35 ha) and one (2 portions totaling 2342.19 ha) in the Western Cape

Suited for livestock farming, the veld holds a diversity of vegetation and prime sweetveld grazing. The farm is divided into 13 well maintained camps (ranging from 150-560 ha). All outside fences, as well as 4 inside camps is jackal proof fenced. All camps is equipped with 1 or 2 watering points.  

Water security is secured by a dam, 5 boreholes and equipped with 3 sun pumps and wind pumps. Water sources is sufficient to supply all livestock watering points throughout the year as well as irrigation needs. To supplement natural veld grazing there are 8 hectares arable land of which 4 hectares are irrigated with mother lines, draglines and spitter irrigation.  The farm also support 0.25 hectare planted Saffron (known as 'red gold') with another 0.25 hectares in preparation for additional plantings.

The spacious main residence includes 4 bedrooms (sleeps up to 12) together with all the amenities for a typical Karoo lifestyle, including an indoor braai/fireplace for the colder snowy winter nights.  Other accommodation on the farm includes a Managers house,  2 staff houses, storage shed and sheep kraals. All houses are supported with solar power and backup battery system. 

The topography supports a diversity of vegetation of sweetveld grass, shrubs and bushes and the veld has been managed responsibly at a carrying capacity of 1 small stock unit on 8ha (thus currently supports 700 SSU). With good rainfall years and veld management, this could be increased to 950 SSU (or 1 on 6ha). Average rainfall: 150-250mm per year. 

To complete the Karoo experience, natural wildlife like gemsbok, kudu, duiker and steenbok flourish in the environment, sustained by the natural veld/grazing and water resources. 

Included in the sale: 680 Meatmaster ewes + 20 rams, 2008 model Land Cruiser, Fiat tractor, Seed Spreader, Scraper, Cultivator with harrow, Disc Plough and +/- 20 Springbok and 8 Blesbok (within the jackal proofed fenced camps). A wind farm contract is being negotiated and detail to be discussed with serious buyers.
